Slackware 13 (April 17th, 2010)

Welcome to Slackware 13!

This will be a log of my attempt to move to Slackware 13 from Debian Squeeze.

I have been running Debian Squeeze for a long while now but after an update borked the system instead of deciding to research the error I decided to give up Debian for awhile and try something a little more geeky.

04/17/2010 - On that note I have moved on to Slackware 13. I'm unsure if this is a good idea. After installing a base system with everything KDE and all, I began to use http://www.slackbuilds.org to install packages. And here is where I hit my first snag. Everything I tried to download would complain about a gpg error. After about a day and a half I finely did something to cause my system to not boot.

04/18/2010 - After not being able to boot I did a re-install today. While installing I did a complete hard drive check. Everything went well and I continued install. I installed base Slackware 13 today without the KDE desktop manager. And this time installed 'sbopkg' to interact with http://www.slackbuilds.org.

04/21/2010 - After spending the last few days installing packages through Chess Griffin's 'sbopkg". I am quite happy with my desktop. Their is still quite a few packages I am missing but they will come. I'm having to find alternatives to some of the applications I use but at this point I would say I am back to about 90% of my old system and have a working system right now. I'm still getting used to some of Slacks differences and killed HAL for a little while today but I worked with it for some time and got that fixed and am determined to keep working with Slackware 13.

04/23/2010 - I couldn't handle the geek. After another few days of using Slack my system borked out again. This is getting bad. It's now close enough to Ubuntu LTS that I've moved to Ubuntu once again.

See you later Slackware 13.
